By: Adrienne Urquhart The Centre is preparing to serve 1,600 meals this Thanksgiving. Guests will enjoy a roast turkey dinner with gravy and cranberry sauce followed by fruit pie. Fifty volunteers will serve the meal. For the meal, kitchen staff and volunteers will: • cook and slice 140 turkeys (7 to 9 kilos or 15-20 pounds each) • make 57 litres (15 gallons) of gravy • peel, cook and mash 680 kilos (1,500 pounds) of potatoes • cook 181 kilos (400 pounds) mixed veggies • make 227 kilos (500 pounds) of stuffing from scratch • slice 250 fruit pies • serve 120 dozen dinner rolls Good Shepherd Ministries’ meal program serves more than 1,000 meals free of charge to anyone in need every day of the year.
