Good Shepherd Ministries prepares 1,200 Christmas meals for people in need

Free festive turkey dinner for people struggling with poverty and homelessness

TORONTO - Dec. 23, 2024 - PRLog -- This Boxing Day, December 26, from 12:00 to 2:30 p.m., Good Shepherd Centre (412 Queen Street East) will be serving its annual festive meal. The meal is offered free of charge to anyone in need. More than 1,000 hungry guests are expected to attend.

We thank the many donors who make it possible to prepare a meal that requires:
  • 120 turkeys
  • 40 litres (11 gallons) of gravy
  • 60 kilograms (132 pounds) of cranberry sauce
  • 454 kilos (1,000 pounds) of potatoes
  • 73 kilos (160 pounds) mixed veggies
  • 109 kilos (240 pounds) of stuffing from scratch
  • 1200 tarts

Thank you as well to the 70 volunteers who serve the restaurant-style meal. Volunteers will also distribute a gift to each guest.

Good Shepherd Centre runs Toronto's largest free meal program, serving meals 365 days a year to any individual in need. In 2023, Good Shepherd provided 330,020 meals to those experiencing food insecurity.
