Oct. 12, 2011 - PRLog -- October 2011:  Five star country resort Rockliffe Hall in County Durham was recognised by the prestigious North East Tourism Awards, winning Gold in the Large Hotel category.

The awards held at Sunderland Football Club's Stadium of Light showcase the best that tourism has to offer in the North East region, recognising quality, performance and innovation.  Forty businesses from across the region competed for the coveted awards and the winners will go on to the national finals of the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence to compete alongside the cream of UK tourism.

Nick Holmes, managing director of Rockliffe Hall said:
“We are delighted to win this award and it is testament to the hard work of all the team here whose dedication, exceptional hospitality and exacting standards have shone through.  We look forward to continuing to deliver, raising the bar and guest expectations next year and beyond.”

Rockliffe Hall, opened in November 2009, is the North East’s only five star resort.  Set on a magnificent restored 18th century estate on the banks of the River Tees, the hotel is steeped in history as the former home of the founders of the Stockton to Darlington Railway and Barclays Bank.  It was designed by Alfred Waterhouse, the architect responsible for the Natural History Museum in London.  It features 61 spacious guestrooms and suites, a world class 18-hole championship golf course, a dreamy state of the art spa featuring ILA and Comfort Zone products, and a 20 metre indoor swimming pool.
