Cruze leads in the U.S. and in China

Oct. 12, 2011 - PRLog -- SHANGHAI -- General Motors Co. and its joint ventures in China report sales in September reached their second-highest monthly total ever, with sales of the Chevrolet Cruze leading the way.

Chevrolet set a September record in China as well, as sales rose 17.7% year- on-year to 54,417 units. Demand for the Cruze, the brand's best-selling model in China and around the world, was up 34.5% to 23,212 units.

Vehicle sales across China totaled 240,244 units, an increase of 15.3% from the same month last year and 16.7% from August 2011.

In the first nine months of 2011, GM and its joint ventures sold a record 1,892,862 vehicles in China, up 6.6% compared to the first nine months of 2010.

"GM has maintained our momentum in China, with all of our major brands setting new September sales marks," said Kevin Wale, president and managing director of the GM China Group. "GM is on track to surpass 2 million annual sales this month in China for the second time in our history and achieve another record for the year as a whole."

Shanghai GM had its second-best month ever, with domestic sales in September totaling 115,733 units -- an increase of 14.8% from the same month last year.
