Nov. 30, 2011 - PRLog -- Nearly 83 youth belonging to villages that fall under the auspices of World Vision India’s Nalanda ADP in Bihar received job-worthy computer skill training recently. The three month programme that aimed to give the youth a better shot at receiving good employment opportunities, helped them learn the basics of computer application, MS Word, MS Excel, Tally and Internet.

Youth empowerment is a key initiative for the Area Development Programme in Bihar, and in promoting this objective, Nalanda ADP provided the youth in the area with skill-development training.  A project that facilitated in ensuring that the youth in the area became job-ready; the training programme that was provided to the 83 youth helped them gain confidence to start looking for employment opportunities.  The 83 candidates who were selected for the programme received training at the nearby NIIT computer training institute, which is considered to be one of the top computer training institutes in the country.

The three-month training programme, which started on 23rd March, helped the selected students gain computer skills that has enabled the improvement of their employability quotient in the job marketplace. The training has also encouraged them to develop a positive attitude towards life and has built their self-confidence. Commendably a few of the students have already secured employment.

The course was especially a great opportunity for the girls in the region, since this was the first time that they were selected for receiving any kind of skill training. With women in the area usually not privy to development opportunities, the training programme served as a stepping stone by encouraging them to come out and explore opportunities in the outside world.

Confident of having become well-equipped to secure employment, Anjali Kumari, one of the students stated, “My parents could not afford this for me. But thanks to World Vision India, I now have computer skills to secure employment.”

To further encourage more youth in the area to take part in the development activities and skill-development training programmes, World Vision India organised a special ceremony where all the 83 students who had successfully completed their training received their certificates. The awards ceremony, which took place on 12th August 2011, served as a platform that helped the youth in the region gain confidence to tap new avenues of opportunities.
