Some charged a standard price for any vehicle on the lot, while others charged depending on make, model, and size of car. Those detailers that said they wouldn't work for a dealership resoundingly agreed that such behavior was bad for business. Dealerships pay far less than individuals, they say, despite the fact that they don't always have regular work volume to justify such a discounted rate. Secondly, detailers reported competition from nearby detailers they said had less experience and charged much lower than the more experienced detailers could. These lower-priced detailers, said those polled in the forum, didn't last long on the market.
