Golden Acorn Casino and Travel Center Hosting Virtual Disaster Relief Exercise

Feb. 3, 2012 - PRLog -- The tribal grounds near Golden Acorn Casino and Travel Center in Campo, California will serve as a staging area for X24, a groundbreaking, three-day virtual disaster relief exercise beginning Tuesday, February 7th. Exercise 24 (X24) Mexico, is a virtual open-invitation humanitarian assistance and disaster relief exercise hosted by San Diego State University Immersive Visualization Center.

The purpose of the exercise is to study the effect of social media and the role it plays when a natural disaster occurs. Participants in this cutting edge worldwide event include The Department of Homeland Security, US Customs and Border Protection, the Red Cross, and many other humanitarian and military agencies from Mexico and across the globe. Border patrol units and San Diego County Sheriffs will be on site near Golden Acorn Casino during this event.

Tuesday, February 7th is scheduled as an “academic day” with exercises taking place on Wednesday, February 7th and Thursday, February 8th. While this is not a public event, the public is encouraged to visit Golden Acorn Casino and Travel Center to observe the operations.
