Stenberg Says Bruning Should Stop Ducking Question Why he Supported Eric “Fast & Furious” Holder

March 12, 2012 - PRLog -- Don Stenberg, Nebraska Republican U.S. Senate candidate, responded today to Jon Bruning’s refusal to answer questions about why he supported the nomination of controversial Second Amendment critic Eric Holder as U.S. Attorney General in 2009.

The Omaha World-Herald reports that Bruning declined to talk about his 2009 letter of support for Holder, claiming his support for gun rights is “unimpeachable”.

“Attorney General Eric Holder is turning out to be every bit as destructive as conservatives and 2nd Amendment supporters warned he would be.  In fact, he’s worse because of his inaction and obfuscations on the scandalous Fast and Furious program that allowed US guns to get into the hands of Mexican drug gangs," Stenberg said.

"Nebraska voters deserve to know why Jon Bruning strongly supported Holder’s nomination as President Obama’s Attorney General, when conservative leaders like Senators Johanns and the NRA were opposing his nomination ” Stenberg said.

“If Jon’s support for gun rights is ‘unimpeachable’ then how does he explain support for someone who so clearly threatens the basic 2nd amendment freedoms we enjoy as Americans, Stenberg said.  

“He should have stood up for principle rather than siding with President Obama and hard-core liberals like Jerry Brown in supporting Eric Holder.  It goes to Jon’s basic judgment, which is once again lacking,” Stenberg said.

“If I had been in the United States Senate, I would have voted against confirming Eric Holder. Jon Bruning would have voted yes. Nebraskans who feel strongly about protecting the 2nd Amendment and are outraged by Fast and Furious know who they can trust in Washington as their U.S. Senator,” Stenberg said.

“There’s more to being a US Senator than raising money.  It’s time Jon Bruning stopped hiding behind big money and started leveling with Nebraskans about his positions on major issues,” he said.
