Cheryl Haworth Weightlifting Competition Will Attract Regional Athletes

April 16, 2012 - PRLog -- SAVANNAH, GA - The annual Cheryl Haworth Classic weightlifting competition will be held this Saturday, April 21, from 11 am until 3 pm at Performance Initiatives, a local USA Weightlifting Regional Training Center in Savannah.

Lifters from all age categories in the southeast are invited to compete in order to qualify for upcoming competitions, including the Youth Nationals in Dearborn, Michigan.

Local athletes will be raising funds for their upcoming trip to Dearborn June 22 – 24 and gift baskets will be raffled for rounds of golf and from local favorites including Paula Dean's, Mrs. Wilkes and Sticky Fingers.

This event is endorsed and named for Cheryl Haworth who currently holds the North American record in the clean and jerk lift (354 lbs.) as well as the snatch (281.6 lbs.) and has competed in three Olympic games, and won the bronze medal in 2000 in Sydney Australia.
