By: SMG Solutions Coventry SMG Solutions decided that after all the hard work we have been putting into our new online media client we deserved to take some time out... And spend some time at the movies! So we purchased our popcorn, took our seats, watched some Fantastic new films.. And decided to share the experience! we gathered our opinions to bring you our spring 2012 film reviews. AMERICAN PIE 'THE REUNION'- Was the most popular choice of all at SMG Solutions, The third sequel to "American Pie," is a funny and entertaining experience, but like actual reunions, some things will never be the same!. To say "American Reunion" was groundbreaking is perhaps too strong, but it was something fresh and different to anything out at the moment and is a must watch for fans of the series. The only major thing going against the film is an uncomfortable subplot involving a girl.. The forever awkward, and now married, Jim (Jason Biggs) used to babysit. The now 18-year-old girl admits to having a crush on Jim and that she wants to lose her virginity to him, The plot is used for cheap laughs and nudity. All that negativity aside, there are a lot of very big laughs in the film that are worth the price of admission. The way Stifler gets revenge on a group of guys that sprayed him with Ski-Doos is hilarious and adding the concept of 'were are they now?' keeps the film constantly interesting with old faces popping up throughout the movie . There's also the invaluable Eugene Levy as Jim's dad, the provider of inappropriate advice!. He was always the heart of American pie films. Now a widower, dad joins his son at their post-reunion party. Watching Stifler get Levy drunk is priceless and results with Jim's dad meeting the infamous Stifler's mom (Jennifer Coolidge).! SMG Solutions rating - 7/10 MARVEL'S 'THE AVENGERS' ASSEMBLE - It’s such a relief to see “Marvel’s The Avengers” kick off the season’s adaptations with such a bright, enjoyable outing!. It’s not just the colorful costumes or snappy banter either. “The Avengers” is everything a comic book movie should be! — a crackling good work of sequential art brought to life with all the action and fun you want in a blockbuster, minus any gilded camp or broody pretension to weigh it down! with a whopping budget of $250 million we had high expectations! Marvel Studios has spent a good four years introducing us to the individual members of this big-screen dream team,So bringing all these iconic characters together in Avengers Assemble has been eagerly anticipated across the board.. An impressive script sees each character playing off the others, providing some genuine moments of hilarity. Tony Stark is clearly king here… but unexpectedly, Viking god Thor manages to throw down some brilliant humorous moments too! At its heart, Avengers Assemble is a high energy action flick, proficiently mixing composition, acting and CGI. However, one of the greater triumphs is its comedic execution. From the taunts of Downey Jr, to the incredibly funny confrontation between Loki and Hulk (you’ll know what were talking about when you see it), the film captures the fists and the funny bones, ensuring that there is a level of accessibility for those being dragged to the cinema by their sons/boyfriends/ The plot is incredibly simple, sacrificed entirely for wall-to-wall action. This is certainly a necessity however; a more complex, layered film would have made the ensemble casting impossible to achieve successfully. Seeing this film without prior knowledge about the Avengers comic history, or at very least having seen a few of the characters solo films, may leave you a little puzzled at times, and certainly have a reduced appreciation for everything that’s happening. The subtle introductions of each hero make this pre-knowledge key to an understanding of how characters relate to each other, although the amazing action sequences and comedic rivalries can be appreciated regardless of this.Altogether a fantastic movie for ANYONE! it has a mixture of genres and is a recommended must see for 2012! SMG Solutions rating- 9/10 DARK SHADOWS- Dark Shadows is a big screen adaptation of a television show that was popular many years ago, and is about a rich young man named Barnabas Collins who is cursed by his evil witch mistress Angelique to forever being a vampire. She then locks him in a coffin for 200 years. He is released in the 1970's, where he discovers that his family's estate is in ruins, his odd family is odd and that Angelique is still alive and kicking, and also the business competition. Depp's acting is fantastic! he wears strange outfits and acts strangely as within most films he has stared in, Dark Shadows is not an overindulgence in special effects, absurd characters and plot points. It's funny and clever at points- watching the character Barnabas adapting to his new environment adds a much needed dose of humor! Michelle Pfeiffer also turns in a fine performance. But the movie director just couldn't help himself... Dark Shadows falls apart in the third act, and in a painfully bad way. Where the first portion of the movie dwells on the simple things - Depp, a vampire from the 18th century, reacting to modern things like cars, television and hippies; his efforts to rebuild the family business; his interactions with his newfound family members - Dark Shadows becomes a convoluted mess as it nears its conclusion adding predictable twists, losing all humor and becoming a little confusing at stages. Dark Shadows begins strong but ends weak. It loses its bite well before the credits roll. SMG Solutions rating 6/10 Looking back through of movies from the 30's, up till the modern day releases SMG Solutions have reviewed how they have a adapted and developed over the years.. We Ask.. Have movies affected our culture? The Answer we came up with? - Absolutely! Movies have a huge influence on our culture/ our work environment/ Why do you consider traveling to a certain part of the world? Why do you think it's cool to mix stripes and polka dots? These things may not seem super important in the grand scheme of things but if we think about it..many of us will realize that we pick up from the media we are watching. While watching a movie we may decide that Greece, for example, is beautiful and add that to our list of places to visit, we may decide we want to cut our hair like the leading actress and try to copy her look. Perhaps the characters in the movie have a local bar they visit and so you have a sudden urge to round up your friends and come up with a spot of your own. Movies send messages, but they are subtle. They don't directly tell us to do certain things, but make things desirable prompting people to go out and try the same. Often movies portray dramatic love stories, or passion filled exchanges that many "normal" people will never actually experience. The love lives of characters in movies are often not realistic but the moviegoer desires the same type of experiences and may go about trying to create that themselves. Movies can tell us what dating couples should be doing, how married couples should or should not act, what types of characteristics are desirable in a partner. Working with a leading provider of online film and video games is possibly one of our most exiting clients! Our team of media/ media marketing professionals cant wait for the next edition of summer movies to be released! End
