Follow on Google News | Miinch Blisters Field En Route to ASA Truck Series Win in at The Bullring in Las Vegas2011 ASA Truck Series champion Taylor Miinch has not had a great deal of success in his previous visits to The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
By: Derrick Shannon Miinch, driving for Upfront Motorsports in the #12 Chevrolet this season, was not about to let past disappointments define his future success. "I honestly can't remember if I have finished a race at The Bullring before this weekend," Miinch offered. "I missed the race once in qualifying, broke a motor, and had transmission issues in both the truck and a Super Late. It always was something." On Sunday he was the driver to beat in the Scott Franchimone prepared Chevrolet. Pacing the stout field in qualifying by laying down a new track record lap of 16.026 seconds around the banked 3/8-mile paved oval set Miinch up for the race he had been wanting to win for a long time. After qualifying the field was inverted for the race, meaning Miinch would be challenged in the 75-lap event starting from the 13th position. "The most difficult part of the race was just staying calm and trying to work my way to the front without getting into trouble," Miinch said. "Everybody drove a pretty good race but the restarts we really tricky. With the field bunched up it was crazy." Miinch got to the front by the mid-way point of the event and held the position through several restarts and a couple of close calls. He did not have the race in hand until the final restart with 14 to go. "On that last restart we got a good jump and started to pull away," Miinch said. "At that point I started to breathe a lot easier but until the checkered flag came out I wasn't sure." With the victory Miinch moved into third place in the championship standings despite not attending the first race of the season. Miinch trails second place by 40-points and is just 48-points behind championship leader Jerimiah Wagner. The next event on the ASA Truck Series schedule is Saturday, June 9 at the quarter-mile flat oval of Lucas Oil Speedway in Blythe, CA. Miinch recently graduated high school and works as a steel fabricator/welder at Clark Steel Fabricators. He plans to compete in the remainder of the ASA Truck schedule as well as make select starts in SRL Southwest Tour and NASCAR K&N Pro Series.
