June 1, 2012 - PRLog -- The CarbonX Rocky Mountain Challenge Series returns this weekend to Rocky Mountain Raceways located West of Salt Lake City, UT for the second of four series visits this season. Back on May 5, Lynn Hardy dominated the action winning his first series event in six years.

Saturday night, the popular Late Model tour returns to RMR for their 29th series event and Hardy is focused on doubling down since he is not running for a championship this season. But if Hardy is going to claim the victory he will need to contend with point leader Bruce Quale who has three top five finishes this season including a third place performance at RMR back in May.

Another RMR hotshoe that will only contest a partial schedule this season in the RMCS is three-time series champion Zan Sharp. Sharp has posted three wins at the ultra-fast 3/8-mile banked oval since 2004 but his last win at RMR came back in 2009. Since then he has claimed three runner-up finishes. Sharp plans to compete in all four series races at RMR this season.

Sitting second in the point standings is Steve Jones of Meridian. Jones notched a runner-up finish at RMR a month ago but is coming off a devastating finish at Meridian Speedway two weeks where he crashed his car hard into the turn three wall. Jones leads all active drivers with four victories at RMR and is tied with Jim Eaton for that honor. Hardy and Sharp share three wins apiece with Jeff Hillock, Eric Rhead, John Dillon, and Dave Minegar each with two wins. Five other drivers have won win each.

The driver with the hottest hand this season is 15-year old racing phenom Jeremy Doss from Upper Lake, CA (currently 4th place in the standings). Doss will also only contest a partial schedule this season but has scored two wins in his only two starts in the series.

Following Quale in the point standings is 2010 champion Steve Jones. Jones has been perhaps the most consistent driver at RMR posting nine consecutive top four performances in the last nine races including four victories.

Sitting third in the standings is John Nesmith who is quietly having a very solid season. Nesmith is a multi-time track champion at Meridian (ID) Speedway along with claiming a championship at Montana Raceway Park a few years back. Nesmith has completed all laps runs this season with two top five and three top ten performances in the first three races.

Nesmith looked to have the race at Meridian in hand two weeks ago but suffered a flat right rear tire due to contact with another car while leading. He drove back up through the field in the final 25 laps to post a fourth place effort. Nesmith is looking for his first top five finish at RMR.

Rounding out the top five int he point standings after three races is Thane Alderman from Las Vegas, NV has become the ironman of the series not only driving the long hours to each event but by racking up starts and top ten finishes. Alderman is fifth in the standings and is coming off sixth place finish at Meridian. In May, Alderman finished fifth at RMR and has one win at the fast banked oval back in 2008.

CarbonX, the world leader in fire protective clothing, is in its fifth season as title sponsor of the RMCS. Along with Century Boatland based in Twin Falls, the two companies provide significant event and series support. Since 1985, Century Boatland has been the Magic Valley headquarters for new and used recreational, pleasure, and fishing boats.

The RMCS utilizes a racing format not found in ANY other regional touring series around the country. The RMCS inverts up to the top 20 from qualifying putting the fast qualifiers at the back to start each race. This format ensures race fans see what they paid for and that is passing. Each driver is awarded three points per position gained in the event. Points are also awarded for qualifying and heat race finishes. Through the history of the series, the winning driver has averaged a 15th place starting position. To ensure competition, the RMCS pays it purse based on total point accumulation for the event and provides several special performance awards at each race.

The series is supported by a great family of sponsors including: CarbonX, Century Boatland, Project Filter, ESI, A-1 Heating & Air Conditioning, Sharp Powder Coating, Five Star Racing Bodies, Hoosier Racing Tires, Frank's Radios, Performance Solutions, Kidd's Performance and Dyno, Joes Racing Products, PPG Paint, Circle Racing Wheels, and Mike Minegar's Auto Body.

Spectator gates open at 4pm with a full compliment of racing action on tap starting at around 6pm. For ticket information please on onto www.rmrracing.com for complete details.
