Rambish’s decision to pursue business ownership was hastened by economic factors and the decision of his long-time employer, computer industry giant IBM, to lay off 1,100 people in its Eastern Region.

“IBM has been very good to me and provided an excellent living for my family and me”, said Butch Rambish, Screenmobile’s newest franchise owner. “My last 16 years was spent traveling extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe as a technical sales advisor. The travel was starting to take its toll. I anticipated that the lay-offs may be coming and had begun to prepare for a welcomed change.”

A 1980 graduate of Lander University with a degree in computer science, the 53-year-old Rambish was not interested in any particular industry when he began his pursuit of business ownership. His priority was finding a venture that kept him close to home and allowed him to become more involved in his local community of Spartanburg.  

“I just searched ‘small businesses for sale Spartanburg’ and Screenmobile popped up”, said Rambish. “The chance of daily, face-to-face interaction with customers who are also my neighbors was very appealing to me.”

While Rambish liked what he saw in Screenmobile’s home based franchise model, he was also impressed with the people involved in the company at both the corporate and franchisee level.  An hour-long phone conversation with Screenmobile president and CEO Scott Walker convinced Rambish to make a trip to corporate headquarters in Thousand Palms, CA. Twenty-four hours later, Rambish made the decision to join the Screenmobile family of franchise owners.

“It all happened very quickly”, said Rambish. “I was informed that my services would no longer be needed at IBM on a Monday and by the following Tuesday, I was a home-based business owner. I really couldn’t be happier about the outcome.”

Funding for the purchase of the franchise was found in combining personal savings with a severance package from IBM and a small loan from a family member. Rambish intends to supplement Screenmobile’s seasonal income by offering computer technology consulting as well.

“Butch is exactly the kind of quality individual we look forward to inviting into our franchise system”, said Scott Walker. “The community of Spartanburg will no doubt benefit as we most certainly will from his involvement with us. We are looking forward to having him represent Screenmobile in Spartanburg.”
