On the Mat Sports International Announces Taekwondo Sports Exchange for Iraqi Youth

June 5, 2012 - PRLog -- Washington, DC – On the Mat Sports International, LLC (OTM) is pleased to announce a partnership and exchange program that will host Iraqi taekwondo coaches and athletes during the week of June 5 – 15 in the Unites States.  This event will feature and engage participants in extensive martial arts and athletic training, clinics, competitions and exciting demonstrations. In addition the group will visit area high schools and summer camps.

“I am pleased to welcome the Iraqi Junior Sparring Team.  Here at On The Mat Sports International, we emphasize the concept of sport diplomacy and the building of international relations via the avenue of Olympic sport Taekwondo.  We are excited to create bonds across international borders through sports”, said Master Ethan E. Woodson.

The goal of this exchange is to empower coaches and athletes to enrich their personal, artistic and professional lives through Taekwondo training, prepare students for the responsibilities of citizenship and encourage students to use their martial arts knowledge to improve communities through acts of leadership.

OTM will host special training June 11 and 13 at 7:30 p.m. Taekwondo athletes and coaches will have the opportunity to train with one of the top US National Team coaches, Sherman M. Nelson Jr. “I am looking forward to exchanging with the young athletes and the coaches from Iraq. This is a tremendous opportunity for diplomacy and fellowship, allowing us to manifest the ideals of Taekwondo in the highest way. As a member of the US National Coaching staff it is my extreme pleasure to host my fellow Taekwondo enthusiasts”, said Sherman M. Nelson Jr.
