Follow on Google News | Miinch Magnificent in ASA Truck Series2011 ASA Truck Series champion Taylor Miinch is perhaps the hottest driver in the ASA this season after scoring his third consecutive victory in the ASA Truck Series this past Saturday night at I-10 Speedway in Blythe, CA.
By: Derrick Shannon The desert heat can give teams fits setting up a race truck that will attack the track and the tricky layout of I-10 speedway's quarter-mile layout was a challenge for teams as temperatures soared above 100 degrees for most of the day on Saturday. Miinch, who drives for Upfront Motorsports in the #12 Chevrolet this season, fought a tight race truck in qualifying but managed to put his Hope4Cancer.com truck solidly in the top five meaning he would start towards the tails of the stout field for the 75-lap main event after a full-field invert was announced. The race slowed as quickly as it started as several trucks at the front of the field got together on the initial start and bringing out a long red flag to clean up debris. Miinch was not phased and when the race was back under green he opted to just sit back and wait. That waiting lasted 30-laps before he even attempted a pass. After a short caution at lap 35, Miinch began to make a run and pick off positions at every corner. I-10 is essentially a one-groove track and if you get out of the groove you can get freight-trained easily so Miinch chose his passing points carefully and took advantage of others mistakes to move his way to the front. Once he was out front he never looked back and ran away to his third consecutive victory moving him to within sight of the championship lead. "I-10 is fun but frustrating at the same time," Miinch said. "I knew we had a great truck and just needed to let things sort themselves out. Once we got to about halfway, I started to move." While Miinch gets the privilege of wheeling the truck he knows that he is a small piece of the puzzle. "The Upfront Motorsports team is first class," Miinch stated. They make it easy for me. These trucks are the very best in the series and I am thrilled to drive for the Upfront team." Miinch had a new sponsor on-board for the event. http://www.Hope4Cancer.Com offers alternative and progressive cancer treatment and has been an innovative leader in the field of cancer research for the past decade. He plans to compete in the remainder of the ASA Truck Series schedule as well as make select starts in SRL Southwest Tour and NASCAR K&N Pro Series.
