Gray Panthers Response to Supreme Court Ruling on Affordable Care Act

June 28, 2012 - PRLog -- Today, the Supreme Court ruled to uphold the entire Affordable Care Act (ACA) declaring that all components of the law are constitutional. Regardless of the Supreme Court’s decision, the Gray Panthers believes that the best solution is a universal single-payer health care system – improved Medicare for all.  

The Gray Panthers believes that health care is a right, and that profit has no place in providing health care to the American people. Throughout the battle for health care reform battle, Gray Panthers across the nation worked tirelessly in support of a universal, single-payer health care system that would have reduced health care costs and insured every single person in this country – everybody in, no one left out.

While the ACA improves some aspect of health care and brings relief to a portion of the uninsured, it significantly strengthens the role of the private insurance industry, fails to adequately control health care cost, and leaves millions of Americans uninsured and millions more underinsured.

Even though the Supreme Court has ruled in favor of upholding the health care law, the Gray Panthers feels it more important than ever for the public to know that adopting a single-payer health care system is the only way to assure truly universal, comprehensive and affordable coverage, eliminate financial barriers to care, improve efficiency and control costs. We will not stop until every single person in this country has the high quality and affordable health care we all deserve.”
