June 28, 2012 - PRLog -- For 18-year old Austin Reed, the Jack in the Box Summer Shootout has not gone according to plan even though he has been one of the fastest drivers each week during the marquee event at Charlotte (NC) Motor Speedway. While the series is a ten race super series, the highlight of the schedule is the Big Money "100" that puts the nations best Legend Car racers center stage in the heart of NASCAR country to claim bragging rights.

The Big Money "100" will begin Sunday, July 1 with practice for all divisions and then resume on Monday, July for heat races and other on-track activities. Tuesday, July 2 with the line-ups set, the Big Money "100" will roll off in a special unique segment race ala the NASCAR Sprint Cup All-Star race.

The first segment is 40-laps where caution laps will count against the lap total followed by a ten minute break. Segment two is also 40-laps with caution laps counting. The final 20-lap segment will be an all out dash to the finish. Caution laps will NOT count in this segment. Following the event will be gigantic fireworks celebration in honor of our Independence Day as a nation!

Austin Reed Reed is one of only a couple drivers who will be doing double duty competing in the Semi-Pro 50-lap feature and the Pro Big Money event. Reed is also one driver who has traveled the furthest for the event coming from Bakersfield, CA some 2,500 miles west.

The Jack in the Box Summer Shootout runs every Tuesday evening through August 21. This summer classic brings together the best Legend car drivers from around the globe and racing in the heart of NASCAR provides a significant exposure backdrop for many of these up and coming young race car drivers. The Southeast's premier regional sports network, Fox Sports South, will televise a weekly 30-minute Jack in the Box Summer Shootout Series highlight show giving these racers additional exposure.

Reed's results in the first three events saw rain cancel round one, then on June 19th while running 4th he was tagged by another competitor sending his car flipping wildly down the back-stretch ending with a destroyed race car. Round three was an 18th place effort after trying to sort the new car out. Watch his spectacular crash here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MecNEUo8oEg

Before hitting the track in Charlotte on Sunday, Reed will make his debut in a Super Late Model at Southern National Speedway in Kenly, NC with crew chief Steve Graham. The 125-lap event features top drivers from around the region competing on the 4/10-mile oval asphalt layout. The track features  17 degree turns, 7 degree straight-a-ways and is 70' wide.

After the Big Money event in Charlotte, Reed will then travel to Caraway Speedway in Sophia, NC for a special Fourth of July Legends race.

"It's a busy schedule but having the opportunity to race all summer in North Carolina is what we have worked towards," Reed said. "It is going to be a blast this next week."

Reed is working at Fluidyne in Charlotte during the summer handling social media marketing for the company as well as working out of the shop at Beattie Racing, one of the premier Legend Car shops in North America, alongside his crew chief and driver coach Kyle Beattie.

Reed drives the #14 K&N Filters/Approved Memory Legend car in the USLCI Legend Car Series Pro division in regional and national events plus will make select starts in Late Model Stock car competition throughout the rest of the year. Reed recently graduated Frontier High School in Bakersfield, CA with honors and plans to enroll at Cal State Bakersfield in the fall pursuing a degree in engineering.
