Aug. 15, 2012 - PRLog -- Emergency Communications Network (ECN), the nation’s largest and preferred high-speed mass notification provider, has expanded early severe weather warning notifications to include tsunami and winter storm warnings to current CodeRED client communities prone to these specific weather conditions.

According to The National Weather Service (NWS), tsunamis can occur during any season of the year and at any time, day or night. The NWS also issues winter storm warnings that may affect various regions of the U.S. and can cause life-threatening conditions. ECN’s addition of these warnings helps its client communities proactively protect its citizens who live in these storm-prone areas. With early warnings, communities are given extra time to prepare for these potentially destructive weather events.

The opt-in early notification system allows citizens to customize the types of alerts they would like to receive via mobile device or email. Community members opt-in to receive severe weather warnings through their city or county’s enrollment page.

“ECN continues to develop technology to stay at the forefront of early warning notifications. Adding tsunami and winter storm warnings is another example of our commitment to informing and protecting the lives of our client communities,” said David DiGiacomo, President of ECN.

Also included with the system upgrade is the option for subscribers to receive severe thunderstorm, flash flood and tornado warnings through text and email alerts. These alerts complement the existing ability for subscribers to receive alerts via landline and mobile telephones so alerts may be received at home, at work or on the go. Tsunami and winter storm warnings can also be accessed through the CodeRED Mobile Alert app, a free public safety application available on iTunes and Google Play.

ECN is the only mass notification provider that delivers severe weather warnings based on the NWS polygon methodology, only contacting those citizens in the direct path of the projected weather.
