| Miinch Posts Top Five at The BullringTaylor Miinch scored a fifth place finish Saturday night at The Bullring at Las Vegas in his second start for car owner Dean Kuhn in the Lucas Oil Modified Series.
By: Derrick Shannon Racing at The Bullring at Las Vegas (NV) Motor Speedway is a challenge no matter the circumstances. The 3/8-mile banked oval produces some of the best racing action around, but the desert heats gives teams fits perfecting a setup that will work once the sun goes down. In his second start of the season driving the #23 Team RBK Modified, Miinch is still getting familiar with the powerful light open-wheel machines. Racing a Modified is a balancing act. Give up something to get something. "These cars are really fun to drive but tire management is critical," Miinch said. "I learned a lot on Saturday, especially when the tires go away. These cars can be a handful." Miinch qualified eighth in a stout field of 24-competitors who tour the southwestern United States competing on the regions short tracks in 75-100 lap events. Miinch started on the pole after the field was inverted to start the race and led the first 25-circuits before losing ground. Miinch discovered quickly how key tires are in these cars. "I ran in the top three for a long time but about midway through the race I just got really loose," Miinch offered. "The car was a handful to drive but we kept the leaders in site. The crew was really happy with the finish but as a driver you always want to do better." The next Lucas Oil Modified Series event is Saturday, September 29 at Lucas Oil Speedway in Blythe, CA. Miinch will also be back in action in the ASA Truck Series on Sunday, September 2 back at The Bullring. Miinch works as a steel fabricator/welder at Clark Steel Fabricators and plans to compete in the remainder of the ASA Truck Series schedule and the Lucas Oil Modified Series.
