Follow on Google News | Gomez Back in Action at PortlandJonathon Gomez set for final road course event of the season in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series this Sunday at Portland (OR) International Raceway.
By: Derrick Shannon The NAPA Auto Parts Salute to the Troops "125" will be run Sunday afternoon on the 1.967-mile flat Portland circuit. The starting field of 28-cars will be set through European race qualifying procedures where groups of cars will take the track at the same time hoping to lay down a fast lap. In three previous road course events this season, Gomez has finishes of 15th (Miller), seventh (Brainerd) and seventh (Sonoma). Those two seventh place efforts are his best career road course finishes. In eleven starts this season, Gomez has three top five and seven top ten performance and has been running at the conclusion of each event. "We have run really well this season and we get better each week," Gomez offered. I am looking forward to Portland." Gomez has completed 98% of all laps contested in 2012. Gomez is seventh in the standing after eleven races and is only 27-points out of fifth place. Gomez has made 38 career starts in the NKNPS after making his series debut at Douglas County Speedway in Roseburg, OR on July 11, 2008. In 38 career races he has eight top five and 19 top ten performances. He has a career best finish of second place twice (Iowa & Phoenix). Gomez Motorsports is owned by John Gomez, a successful farmer and businessman based in Idaho. The team is lead by crew chief Craig Raudman and supported by Ron Copeland, Blaine Bergem, Derek Copeland, Kyle Cattanach, Adam Wyse, and Mike Mulder. Iowa Race Rewind The race at Iowa featured the second of two East/West combination events on the 2012 schedule. Gomez qualified 23rd and finished 23rd in the race completing 147 of 150 laps. However, he finished seventh among his West series counterparts to record seventh top ten of the 2012 season in the West series championship standings. Next Up After the Portland event, the NKNPS teams will travel to NAPA Speedway in Albuquerque, NM for an inaugural event on the 4/10-mile paved oval in the Southwestern desert on Saturday September 29.
