Big Deal.More than 800,000 veterans live in Virginia, and until now most didn’t have a way to show their veteran status. These men and women have given much for our country and deserve to be recognized. The new Virginia Veterans ID card will do just that.
By: Virginia Department of Veterans Services Governor Bob McDonnell, a U.S. Army veteran himself, helped us launch the effort in May. In a partnership between the Department of Veterans Services (DVS) and the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) veterans will be able to obtain an official ID card identifying them as Virginia Veterans. Why do Virginia’s veterans need an ID Card? More than 800,000 veterans live in Virginia, and until now most didn’t have a way to show their veteran status. These men and women have given much for our country and they deserve to be recognized. The new Virginia Veterans ID card will do just that. How do our veterans benefit? Retail businesses and restaurants around the state offer an array of valuable discounts to veterans. Instead of having to carry a DD 214 military discharge document, veterans who have a Veterans ID card can simply show a convenient, wallet-sized card and receive the discounts they’ve earned through their service and sacrifice. What you can do to help Simply post one of our DVS-provided banners on your website. The banner link should take readers to our website, where veterans can get the information they need. Banners can be found at http://www.dvs.virginia.gov/ Who should I contact for more information? Please show your support for this exciting new veterans program. For more details on the program please visit http://www.dvs.virginia.gov/ On behalf of Virginia’s veterans, thank you for your support. Sincerely, Paul Galanti Commissioner, Virginia Department of Veterans Services End
