Employees at LV-PITA, Professional Institute of Technology honored at Disability Awards Luncheon

Nov. 11, 2012 - PRLog -- On October 26, 2012, two of the employees at Professional Institute of Technology  were among the honorees at the Diversity Resources luncheon honoring employers who hire disabled workers, and the employees who represent the disability community with their commitment to their careers.

Chona Penniman, Education Support Representative, was the winner of Employee of the Year.  Chona works in the Admissions Department of LV-PITA, and provides assistance to prosepctive students and helps them with agency funding.  She herself was a student at the school, prior to employment.  She was enrolled at LV-PITA through the State of Nevada Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation.  She took office classes at the school and now shares her story and is passionate about helping.   She had an accident on an ATV and is paralyzed, but she doesnt let that stop her.  She is always upbeat and sees the bright side of life.  She is an inspiration to everyone she meets.

JoAnn Cass is a second time nominee for employee of the year.  She is visually impaired and has a degenerative disease which will eventuaqlly  leave her totally blind.  Currently she can see shadows, but she does not let that stop her!  She too, came to LV-PITA from the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation.    She was involved as a student in a pilot program  in training individuals with vision impairments.She performed exceptionally and mastered the programs so well, the school hired her to assist in mentoring future students.   She utilizes programs such as JAWS, WindowEyes and ZoomText to help train other individuals.  She too is an inspiration to so many and has so much enthusiasm for her career and helping others.
