4 Affiliate Marketing Tips for Newbies That Can Help You Make More Money Online in 2013

If you’re lucky enough to choose the right affiliate program / affiliate product, you could find yourself earning a part-time or full-time living within a matter of months – really! I know this from first-hand experience (more on this below).

For many though, it’s going to take a systemized effort to get there. And it can be done, if you heed the advice of those who’ve “been there and done that.” To this end, following are four pieces of advice for affiliate marketing newbies that can get you on the road to success quicker than you ever dreamed.

1. Stop Affiliate Program Hopping

In short, select a few affiliate products/programs and devote yourself to those. One of the most difficult things for many new affiliate marketers is staying focus. They hop from one money making opportunity to another trying to find one that works.

It’s understandable because there are so many opportunities out there in affiliate marketing. But, I can guarantee you this -- the easiest way NOT to make money as an affiliate marketer to do what I call “program hop.” So, choose a program (or a few) and then stick with them.

2. Choose Affiliate Programs with Multiple Products / Services

I got really lucky when I started out in affiliate marketing. I promoted a hot product in the foreclosure industry (foreclosures where hot at the time). The product happened to be developed by my sister, who went on to create other products in that line. All of them turned out to be pretty good sellers, which allowed me to earn as much as $900 in a single day. This doesn’t happen often, so don’t get all excited – but it does underscore the type of money to be made in affiliate marketing.

I write and sell ebooks, and have seen this type of success with my own products. To explain, one of my best sellers is the ebook, How to Make $250+/Day Writing Simple, 500-Word Articles. I write a blog on SEO writing and receive a lot of questions from readers about this profession. The bottom line is, it’s much easier to make money when you join affiliate programs that have multiple products. This is because you give prospective customers more purchasing options.

If you only have one product and they don’ like it, there’s no other way to make a sale. But, if a customer has several options – particularly at different price points – then you have a chance of selling them something. Then if they like that one product, they’re much more likely to circle back and buy again.

3. Use the Sales Tools that Affiliate Program Creators Give You

Many affiliate program creators have ready-made sales tools to make it easier for their affiliates to get sales. This ranges from simple banners, to explanatory videos, to content marketing (eg, articles). Use these when you join affiliate programs.

The reason is – the person(s) who created the product / service you’re promoting knows the product/service better than anyone. And, they’ve likely put a great deal of thought into creating the most effective sales tools. So don’t re-invent the wheel – use them.

For example, I love article marketing because it’s proven to be one of the most effective, free ways to get the word out about my products. And, it brings sales and traffic for years. Hence, I created a databank of pre-written articles (my own personal article directory) just for my affiliates. All they have to do is put their affiliate link in the article and post it on their website, blog, in their newsletter, etc.

I write; my affiliates make money --  promoting an affiliate product just doesn’t get any easier than this!

4. Choose Those with Low Payout Thresholds

Some affiliate programs have high payouts, eg, you have to earn $100 in sales before you can get paid.

The fact is, many affiliates never earn enough to get a payout. This is why I advise newbies to join affiliate products that have a low payout threshold. This will be different for everyone, but the lower the better.

Keep this in mind -- the lower the affiliate payout threshold, the quicker you get paid.
