Lately it has become nearly impossible to post an ad into a city other than your own on Craigslist. When you try to post into another city, Craigslist will “ghost” your ad.

(“Ghosting” is just a term that means that Craigslist never really publishes your ad to the public. Craigslist provides you with a link to a fake version of your ad, that only you will ever see. They do this to fool people into thinking their ads are “live”, when in fact the ad never appears anywhere that the public will see.)

Most people try to beat the Craigslist system by rotating IP addresses, renting DSL lines, buying PVAs and essentially trying to fool Craigslist into thinking that the ad is being placed by a local person.

There are some options to get around this problem if you are posting in other cities (one of the obvious advantages of using Craigslist).

1- The easiest way to get around this is to hire outsourcers on Fiverr, Odesk, Freelancer, etc. who actually live in other cities.

2 - Don't post more than once a week.

3 - Don't use the same wording in your ads.

4- Don't use HTML code in your ad. Instead resort to a JPG graphic (a "picture" with the text of your ad).

5- Create multiple accounts with multiple phone numbers (disposable cell phones).

6 - Expect to lose a 50% of the ads that you post. Be prepared to spend a significant amount of time posting.

7 - Make sure that you have a product/service that actually converts. Otherwise you can waste a lot of time.
