Take a stand against bullying,” a night of music and information to raise awareness of bullying and raise funds for the York Region Anti-bullying Coalition.
By: Prime Data Dana Williams, a Prime Data employee, co-founded the event after hearing the story of Port Coquitlam, B.C., teenager Amanda Todd, who took her own life as a result of bullying. “I was very moved by her story and when looking into a way to help her family, discovered it is a local issue as well — people right here in York Region have fallen to the same fateful outcome due to bullying.” Williams approached concert promoter Josh Gottlieb to help organize the benefit concert. “Our goal is to open the dialogue about bullying and its effects,” says Williams. “We want to raise awareness of the support available to people facing bullying.” The event features music by David Hennman, The Elwins, Taylor Knoxx, The Socials, and more, as well as anti-bullying guest speakers David Sebben and Randy Ketterling. A list of all presenters and musicians — who waived their fees in support of the benefit — is found on the event Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/ All event proceeds go to the York Region Anti-bullying Coalition, who works to campaign, educate and reduce bullying and violence in York’s schools and neighbourhoods. “Giving back to the community and supporting local causes is a big part of Prime Data’s vision,” says company president Steve Falk. “We encourage our employees to support causes they believe in and we help them with printing and additional funding where possible.” In addition to this event, Prime Data has offered support to other community-based organizations such as “Raise the Barn 4 Round the Bed Farm” benefit concert; the York Regional District school board Work Experience program; the Aurora Minor Hockey Association, and The Aurora Cultural Centre.
