Filmmaker Erden Kıral receives 2013 Boston Turkish Film Festival Excellence in Turkish Cinema Award

BOSTON - March 24, 2013 - PRLog -- Veteran director of the Turkish cinema  Erden Kıral was presented the Boston Turkish Film Festival Award for Excellence in Turkish Cinema  in  a ceremony at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Preceding the ceremony, Kıral’s acclaimed new movie “Load/Yük” had its international premiere.  The film had a strong impact on the audience and in the end received a strong applause by the audience.  After receiving his award, Director Erden Kıral said he was delighted to be receiving this award which he thinks is one of the most important awards of his career, and also is very happy to be having the international premiere of his latest film “Load” in Boston. At the Q&A session about the film, which is set in a coal mine, Kıral mentioned that filmmakers were like miners, digging continuously and going deep to find the truth. He said, throughout his career, he had made films questioning morality which force the audience to ask questions.

Presenting the award to Kıral, Festival Director Erkut Gömülü pointed out that the worldwide perception of Turkish cinema has been brought to a new level by the international accomplishments of Turkish filmmakers and Turkish cinema has gained higher visibility and recognition.  Gömülü also stated that they were so pleased to be sharing an important selection of the contemporary Turkish cinema with, and presenting acclaimed directors to the cinema enthusiasts in Boston.

Recipients of this award in previous years were directors Zeki Demirkubuz, Reha Erdem,  Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Yeşim Ustaoğlu, Derviş Zaim and Tayfun Pirselimoğlu.

Boston Turkish Film Festival, organized since 2001, promotes contemporary Turkish films and directors to American audiences. The main sponsors of this year’s festival, which ends on April 27th, are the Turkish Cultural Foundation, The Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Turkish Airlines.
