Ribfest Chicago 2013 Returns to North Center

CHICAGO - April 2, 2013 - PRLog -- Ribfest Chicago (http://www.ribfest-chicago.com/) started in 1999 as a local block party. Since then, the event has blossomed into a massive, multiple day street festival. For 2013, Chicago’s Ribfest will run from June 7th through June 9th from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and noon to 10 pm Saturday and Sunday. It’s happening at the intersection of W. Irving Park Road, N. Lincoln Avenue, and N. Damen Avenue, in the North Center neighborhood, and admission is free, but a donation of $5 at the entrance is requested and will go towards local causes.

The food at Ribfest Chicago is the obvious draw. The Northcenter Chamber of Commerce, the organization putting on the event, is boasting that 65,000 pounds of ribs will be cooked to feed the festival’s patrons. BBQ ribs, Korean short ribs, and every type of barbecue in between will be available for sample at the fest in a tremendous amount of flavors. However, unlike admission, the food is not free; tickets to exchange for food samples will be available for purchase at booths in the fair. Additionally, for the exceptionally hungry, Ribfest Chicago will be holding rib-eating contests at the event.

The rib-eating contest isn’t the only source of entertainment at Ribfest Chicago. There will also be live music at the event. 25 bands, all local indie groups, are expected to play live. The genres that can be expected include indie, indie roots, pop, rock, and alt country. In addition, families will have the option of taking their children to the “Kids’ Square” to enjoy games and have fun in inflatable play facilities.
