ELGIN, Ill. - April 5, 2013 - PRLog -- Biggers Chevrolet in Elgin is proud to announce that General Motors is going to release two new midsize pickup trucks under their Chevrolet and GMC brands. These trucks will be designed to compete with Ford’s redesigned F-150. GM plans to launch their trucks at the same time as Ford, which is expected to be by the end of 2014 or early 2015.

Part of the reason GM has decided to go ahead and create a new pair of pickups is due to truck buyers wanting to be able to carry cargo with better fuel economy than current full-size pickups. As Mark Reuss, president of GM North America said, not all truck drivers need everything that full-size trucks have to offer.

One of the many features GM is offering that should help improve fuel efficiency is cylinder deactivation. With this system, the V6 or V8 engine shuts off cylinders when the truck is not utilizing full power, such as driving slow through city streets or cruising on the highway. General Motors has said they’ve made adjustments to the system by improving fuel economy while at the same time delivering additional power to drivers when necessary.

Additional changes include a more aerodynamic exterior design, an upgraded interior, and a rear lift gate that lowers slowly and gently instead of quickly slamming when released.

GM, according to Reuss, is targeting two specific types of buyers. The Chevrolet will be directed towards a “lifestyle” truck driver, which is someone that uses the vehicle for everyday-related items. The GMC truck is going to be aimed at fleet buyers and small business owners, those who use it for work-related purposes. Reuss also added that General Motors is going to offer “something no one else has.”
