Maverick Gaither: Soulful R&B Musician from New York: Exclusive Interview

Maverick Gaither...Gaither’s music exhibits smooth and sexy tones and lyrics and brings to mind the styling of Will Downing and Luther Vandross but Gaither certainly has a style all his own. Exclusive interview with the Maverick.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - April 12, 2013 - PRLog -- Maverick Gaither is a singer/songwriter from Brooklyn, New York. Gaither has been playing the saxophone since the age of 11 and performing in nightclubs since the age of 15. Gaither’s first experi- ence as a recording artist was back in the 80’s with a two man group called “Friction”. Gaither states the first recording came out of the two men joking around and ended up creating a track called “Barbeque” fol- lowed by a more serious ballad that he and his father wrote called “Lovely With Your Fantasy”. Gaither was actually inspired to begin a singer career when he heard the voice of Luther Vandross. Going through a bit of a dry point, in 2012 Maverick released his first album “Be My Music” under Mavmani Music and produced by Gil Small who Maverick says is one of the best producers out there today.

Since 1990, Maverick has been the lead vocalist, saxophonist and master of ceremonies for New York Entertainment’s Central Park Orchestra. Other accomplishments include twice being named “Top Male Vocalist” in the US army, performing with greats such as Regina Belle, Teddy Pendergrass, Cheryl Pepsi Riley and many others.

From his current album, the track “No One But You” is a song Maverick did not write himself but he says that it is one of his favorite songs of his new album. The song was written by his producer Gil Small and Terina G. Once he heard a few notes of the song, Gaither says he knew it was one he would love to record and then after hearing the whole song he states he had to wipe away the tears because the song was so fantastic. Another track Gaither says is one of his favorites is the title track “Be My Music”. In his explanation of how this track came about he describes the time he was on 42nd street in Manhattan when he ran into actress Bern Nadette Stanis (Good Times) and began a conversation with her. Gaither further explained that although they attended the same high school together, he had never met her but at this moment he knew he had to strike up a conversation with her. He says hi and she replies hi, he looks at her and replies “you don’t remember me do you?” The conversation continues and then they part ways after they say their goodbyes. Maverick states how he was a fan of hers and how he was in love with her as most of us were in love with Thelma from Good Times. Later on she would become the inspiration for him writing that song. As he began to pen the song “Be My Music” he thought of their encounter and then the words and music just flowed from within. Gaither’s music exhibits smooth and sexy tones and lyrics and brings to mind the styling of Will Downing and Luther Vandross but Gaither certainly has a style all his own. The album consists of soothing R&B love songs over smooth jazz tones and a few up tempo dance tracks including a track with Cheryl Pepsi Riley entitled “For The Love of My Life”. Gaither’s styling is a style all too rare with today’s R&B music and something solely needed. This is one album you should make sure you purchase.
