Follow on Google News | Henry Campen is NC State Poole College's 2013 Person of the Year“This award is presented annually by Poole College to a distinguished individual who has made outstanding contributions to the college, to his or her profession and to the NC State community,” said Ira R. Weiss, Poole College dean. Weiss will formally present the award to Campen during the college’s Fifth Annual Leadership and Innovation Showcase (http://poole.ncsu.edu/ “Throughout his career, Henry has demonstrated the professionalism and commitment to service that is so important in today’s dynamic business environment,” Campen, who focuses his practice primarily on energy law, has more than 25 years of experience working with regulated utility companies. He manages siting, permitting and development issues for renewable energy companies across a broad spectrum of technologies including wind, solar and biomass. Campen was recognized by American Lawyer magazine as a “Top Rated Lawyer for Energy, Environmental and Natural Resources” for 2013 and was also listed among The Best Lawyers in America in Energy Law for 2013. He leads Parker Poe’s multidisciplinary Renewable Energy practice, and served as managing partner of the firm’s Raleigh office for ten years. Campen and his firm have represented developers of the state’s first two utility scale wind farms in obtaining permits for wind energy projects that will generate nearly 400 megawatts of clean energy. He recently was elected chair of the board of directors of the Southeastern Coastal Wind Coalition, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the coastal and offshore wind industry. In addition to his role as chair of the SECWC’s board of directors, Campen serves on Poole College’s board of advisors, including a two-year term as chair of the board in 2012. He is also a member of the board of directors and executive committee of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce. Campen received his bachelor of arts degree from Wake Forest University, a master’s degree in public administration from American University, and his law degree from North Carolina Central University.
