Follow on Google News | Game-changer for construction industry introduced - BLP commentsKim Vernau, CEO, BLP Insurance, comments ahead of Richard Saxon’s speech at the House of Commons this afternoon on BIM and its impact on the UK’s construction industry.
"Saxon’s report clearly demonstrates that the UK is the market leader in terms of the intellectual development and momentum behind Building Information Modeling (BIM), considered to be a game-changing technological and cultural process for the construction sector. “The implementation of BIM in the UK will raise productivity, provide better buildings, faster and cheaper and these innovative technologies represent an opportunity for the UK professional services sector to become a powerful international player in construction. “The UK’s Level 2 BIM Policy, Soft Landings and Digital Build Britain concepts are world leading and have positioned us ahead of the USA who have historically dominated the vendor and user markets. With BIM’s future now firmly in the UK’s hands, there is the opportunity for the UK to lead EU construction policy development in the future. “BIM provides an opportunity to boost economic growth from projects in developing countries, which need to import design and construction services. BIM adoption throughout project cycles, from inception to occupancy, represents a further opportunity for growth, through the removal of risk, time, and cost, and the delivery of a differentiated level of service in construction projects across the globe.” For further information please contact Lianne Robinson or Cara Penkethman, Broadgate Mainland: Telephone: 020 7726 6111 Email: BLP@broadgatemainland.com Notes to editors: About Building Information Modeling (BIM) Richard Saxon, the UK Government’s BIM Ambassador for Growth, was commissioned in July 2012 by the Department of Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS) through the Construction Industry Council (CIC) to produce a report to support and maximise the growth effect of the Government strategy for BIM at home and in export markets. The report, GROWTH THROUGH BIM, was published on Thursday 25th April by CIC. Building Information Modeling (BIM) is an innovative and collaborative way of working underpinned by digital technologies which support more efficient methods of designing, creating and maintaining the built environment. BIM embeds key product and asset data within multi-dimensional computer models that can be used for effective management of information throughout the project lifecycle – from earliest inception through occupation. Richard advises BIM will raise productivity, providing better buildings, faster and cheaper. Further and equally as importantly these innovative technologies also represent an opportunity for the UK professional services sector to become a powerful international player. The report incorporates researched key developments in BIM internationally and in the EU. The current EU Procurement Directive revision in particular. This supports the export of UK policy and its methods both within the EU and UK. End
