12th Annual Movies in the Park Coming Soon

Chicagoans will be able to catch movies old and new in parks around the city this summer.

CHICAGO - May 9, 2013 - PRLog -- Chicagoans will once again have the opportunity to enjoy Movies in the Park for the 12th year beginning Monday, June 11.  Movies in the Park (http://www.chicagoparkdistrict.com/events/movies/) is a public entertainment program run by the Chicago Park District in partnership with sponsor Charter One in which current and classic films are screened outdoors in 128 citywide parks with free admission.

This year the series will run throughout October 26 and will feature 176 screenings of scores of movies including classic cinema like the Wizard of Oz, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Cabaret and more recent award winning films such as Forest Gump and The Transformers. The genres range from dramas to comedies and action to animation and children’s films and everything in between. Just a few of the G and PG rated kid-friendly and family films on this year’s schedule are Dolphin Tale, The Smurfs, The Sandlot, Rango and more.

All movies begin at dusk, weather permitting and some are closed captioned (as listed in the online brochure that includes the full program (http://www.chicagoparkdistrict.com/assets/1/23/2012-Movie...) and schedule). The series kicks off on Monday, June 11 at the park at Belmont Harbor, located at Belmont and Lake Shore Dr. with a screening of the Alfred Hitchcock classic Vertigo. The next day, Tuesday, June 12 will be a screening of the classic family comedy Pee Wee’s Big Adventure in Millennium Park and the timeless Some Like it Hot in Montgomery Ward Park at 630 N. Kingsbury St.

The program includes parks in virtually every neighborhood across the city from the North to the South and West Sides. Available at the link above is the full schedule of all the movies and parks.
