Follow on Google News | Millennium Park Rocks Out During the Summer Music SeriesAll summer long Jay Pritzker Pavilion is hosting a music series showcasing a variety of artists and genres.
Downtown Sound is the first to begin and the longest running, starting May 27 and ending July 29. The series is scheduled to feature artists like Irish singer-songwriters Glen Hansard and Lisa Hannigan, the Grammy winning, bluegrass inspired Carolina Chocolate Drops, and rock group Dawes performing genres including indie rock, pop, hip-hop and folk. The performances will take place every Monday at 6:30 p.m. Loops and Variations is a series that will include performers like Falty DL, who will be putting on a show including many electronic music subgenres like house and dubstep, Matmos, a pair specializing in experimental music, and Dan Deacon, an electronic music composer whose live shows involve frequent audience participation. The series is scheduled to run the following Thursdays at 6:30 p.m.: June 13, June 17, June 27, July 4, July 18, and August 28. A special 8 p.m. performance is scheduled for July 11. The final series is Made in Chicago: World Class Jazz, which will begin in late July. These performances of Chicago jazz will run every Thursday from July 25 until August 29, again at 6:30 p.m. That final performance on August 29 will have special significance, as it is the opening performance of this year’s Chicago Jazz Festival and will feature Jack DeJohnette leading a Special Edition Chicago Band in celebration of his 70th birthday.
