Babels Paint & Decorating Stores Selected as Finalist in the Mass. Family Business of the Year Award

WESTWOOD, Mass. - June 17, 2013 - PRLog -- Babel’s Paint and Decorating Stores, Inc. is happy to announce that it was selected as a Finalist in the seventh annual Massachusetts Family Business of the Year Awards program to recognize Babel’s ongoing success as a family business.

The Awards program was created by Northeastern University to increase awareness and to publicly promote the achievements of Massachusetts-based family owned companies. The Northeastern University Center for Family Business annually presents three family businesses, based on size, with recognition as Massachusetts Family Business of the Year Awards.

Recipients of the Massachusetts Family Business of the Year Awards are selected by a panel of independent judges based on the following criteria:
• Business success
• Positive business and family linkages
• Multi-generational family involvement
• Contributions to the community and industry
• Innovative business practices or strategies

As stated in Governor Patrick’s proclamation of Family Business day, June 5th, 2013, “Family businesses are a great and significant component of our heritage and culture, and greatly contribute to the Commonwealth’s economy.”

Northeastern University's College of Business Center for Family Business is a membership organization that provides family business education, networking opportunities, and support to business families. The Center helps its members identify and avoid potential pitfalls, solve complex interpersonal and family business issues, and plan for future family business success in an increasingly more competitive environment.

Babel’s Paint & Decorating is known for carrying Benjamin Moore paints, and is a Hunter Douglas Gallery Dealer, with Color Consultants and Interior Decorators on staff. Babel’s offers full service decorating as well as a wide assortment of products, including paint, wallpaper, draperies, window treatments and much more. The Babel’s stores also have a growing selection of “green” products that are eco-friendly and reduce exposure to harmful vapors and greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Babels prides itself on it’s knowledgeable staff who are friendly and pay attention to details. The stores are located in Norwood, Needham Center, Foxboro and Canton, Massachusetts.

Victor Babel, Sr. and his wife, Mickey, opened the first Babel's store in 1950 in his hometown of Norwood, MA. Babel's quickly developed a reputation for quality paint and wallpaper products, personalized service and attention to detail.

Twenty years later, Victor and Mickey's youngest son, Vic, Jr. with the support and partnership of his wife Jeanne, the second generation of Babel's took over the business and began seeking opportunities for growth.

In the early 1990's it became clear that Babel's was not just a paint and wallpaper store. With the addition of professional designers, it had grown into a full-service decorating center. In 1994, the store name was officially changed to Babel's Paint & Decorating Store.

In 1996 Vic and Jeanne opened their second store in Jeanne's hometown of Needham, MA, followed three years later with the addition of the Foxboro store. In 2005, Babels acquired a paint store in Canton at Cobb’s Corner which they quickly renovated to include design services.

From 400 square feet in 1950, Babel's stores have grown to four locations. With more than 30 employees – Babels is pleased to continue its path of growth, success and service to the community.
