ATLANTA - July 1, 2013 - PRLog -- Two charity organizations are among the first to enjoy the benefits of a new fundraising platform created by Sociercise, LLC.  On July 10th participants from around the world can join together in a virtual charity race in support of Spirit of Sharing.  The following week, a Georgia chapter of the Family Promise organization will be hosting their own virtual charity race to support their mission of aiding local homeless families.

Both of these events are powered by the new Sociercise Charity Races platform.  These multi-day virtual charity races allow organizations to have an energetic fundraising event that provides access to participants from across the globe.  During a typical five day racing period participants can run or walk anywhere they choose and as often as they like to log miles with Sociercise, the full featured running app for iPhone.

Before the racing period begins donors can make pledges for each mile completed by any individual participant.  In addition to allowing donors to pledge an amount per mile they can also pledge a minimum and a maximum donation amount providing added security to donors in case runners are overly motivated or do not run enough.  Once the racing period is complete the distance each runner accumulates is matched to the pledges he or she received prior to the start of the race and the organization receives the donations.

Bobby Valentine, one of the creators of the Sociercise platform  said "We are happy to provide these organizations with a way to raise money through an athletic event without the need for massive amounts of planning and volunteers or the risk and limitations of geography and weather."  Valentine, and his business partner Tom Vinkler have been working on this platform for two years and met in person for the first time last month.

On the two's long distance partnership Valentine stated "It is indicative of the time in which we live.  For two years we've talked everyday and built this amazing tool that will impact lives without ever being in the same room prior to June."

Spirit of Sharing is an award winning non-profit organization based in Southern California.  Their mission is to provide meals and gifts to the families of active duty military personnel who cannot be home for the Christmas season.  They hope to get an early start on Christmas shopping following their event on Sociercise.  People wishing to participate in the Spirit of Sharing race on Sociercise are encouraged to visit the racing dashboard for that event on the Sociercise website.  The racing period will be from July 10th-14th and participants can run anytime, anywhere to log their miles.

Family Promise is a national organization with local chapters that provide a day center and organize local congregations to provide shelter to homeless families.  The chapter hosting the Sociercise race is located in Cleveland, GA and recently began operations.  They hope to raise funds to support the new day center and provide necessities to these struggling families.   The Family Promise event on Sociercise will  be July 18th-22nd.
