Follow on Google News | Performance raises funds for at-risk kids at Quality Life CenterAlmost $1000 in donations was raised at an event featuring music, dance and spoken word poetry performed by at-risk children who attended Quality Life Center's summer camp.
By: Quality Life Center During the eight weeks of summer camp, boys and girls, ages 2 to 18, learned songs and dances which they performed at the event. There wasn’t a dry eye in the theater when boys from age 5 to teens filled the stage and recited Daniel Beaty’s poem, “Knock Knock,” about having the hope and strength to overcome barriers and make a positive difference. Donations to support the program for at-risk youth totaled nearly $1,000. Quality Life Center’s Arts, Character and Education youth development program is held in the afternoons during the school year and all day in the summer. During summer camp, academic lessons take place daily to fight the “summer slide” when children, particularly children of color, lose ground as a result of limited educational opportunities. Arts activities are provided to build discipline and resilience. Leadership and character-building activities are incorporated to instill values which will serve youth into adulthood. Quality Life Center of Southwest Florida Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization transforming the community by developing the potential of underserved populations in southwest Florida with adult job development training, an early learning program and youth development programs including after-school and summer camp programs. For more than 20 years, the “Q” has been instilling values of discipline, integrity and self-sufficiency.
