General Motors Donates Vehicles to Cerritos College Automotive Technology Program

General Motors donated three vehicles to the Cerritos College Automotive Technology program.

NORWALK, Calif. - Aug. 14, 2013 - PRLog -- The vehicles will be used for educational purposes; ensuring that students will have the opportunity to work on late model vehicles that they will see when working at a dealership.

Cerritos College Automotive Technology Program offers certificates, degrees and special programs in automotive repair, collision repair, alternative fuels, smog training, advanced transportation technology and automotive management.

Cerritos College Automotive Technology Program also offers a nationally authorized technician program for GM. The GM Automotive Service Educational Program (ASEP) program prepares students for the workforce by providing classroom and hands-on instruction as well paid on-the-job training.

GM donated a 2008 Buick Enclave, a 2008 Acadia SUV, and a 2007 Chevrolet 2500 HD Truck, Duramax Diesel. The vehicles will be part of Cerritos College’s General Motors training. Students will be able to work on the vehicle during the hands-on portion of the classes.

"The GMC Acadia is built on the same platform as the Buick Enclave and will give students an opportunity to practice working on similar vehicles from different product lines. Students will benefit from the Chevrolet Silverado in part because it is only the second diesel vehicle in our GM fleet. Technicians in the industry get paid a premium to diagnose and repair diesel vehicles so introducing them to this technology will improve their marketability in the field,” said Cerritos College Automotive Instructor, Joe Mulleary. “Having these vehicles at Cerritos College will enable the GM ASEP students to become more familiar with all four brands of GM vehicles as part of their technical training.”

The GM ASEP program is a two-year automotive program designed to upgrade the technical competency and professionalism of the dealership technician. The curriculum is designed by General Motors and Cerritos College, and leads to an Associate Degree. The program involves not only attending classroom lecture and laboratory on GM products at Cerritos, but also requires the student to work at a General Motors dealership. Since the student earns while he/she learns, a considerable portion of the costs involved in the program is offset.

The next GM program at Cerritos College starts August 19, 2013. To find out how to apply for the GM program, visit: http://cms.cerritos.edu/auto/asep.htm
