SAN FRANCISCO - Aug. 14, 2013 - PRLog -- San Francisco’s favorite locally owned bookstore, Green Apple Books, is hosting Kathleen Varn for a book reading and signing at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 21.  Varn is featured in the July/August issue of Southern Writers Magazine and is on tour with her new release, Ameera Unveiled (http://www.katvarn.com/). Her first stop along the west coast is at this historic bookstore, regularly voted the best independent bookstore in the bay area by multiple publications and websites.

“The history of Green Apple Books is so cool,” says Varn who is thrilled to collaborate with the store to introduce the book to her west coast friends and the entire San Francisco area. She continues, “I can identify with the store’s ability to adapt and thrive throughout the years and I’m proud they are hosting me and carrying my book.”

The event at the historic bookstore (506 Clement Street) is open to the public and all are welcome to join as Varn reads an excerpt of her debut novel and talks about the real belly dancing story behind her spellbinding work of fiction.

Just released by Boutique of Quality Books (BQB) Publishing, the book explores the restricted existence of a middle-aged woman who is desperate for personal liberation. The story unfolds as Kat discovers newfound freedom through belly dancing.  With the support of a glittery ensemble of zealous women, Kat weaves strong friendships as she faces her fears of stage fright and vulnerability.

“This is Ameera’s journey to pursue the forbidden zone of dance while becoming part of a larger experience, the bonding of women,” says Varn.

BQB President Terri Leidich accepted this book into the BQB publishing program in 2012 after a report from the acquisitions team declared, “Varn’s writing style is fun, quirky, with hints of humor and self-reflection. The storyline is engaging, exciting, fresh, and unique.  Women will really relate to this character, regardless of whether they’re forty or not.”

Those unable to attend the event can learn more about the book, available in paperback or eBook, at KatVarn.com or bqbpublishing.com.

About the Author
Kathleen Varn’s love affair with words manifested when she turned four and taught herself to read. As she grew older, books and reading were an escape from responsibility. Eventually, Kathleen dove into journaling, which helped her find solace in the grief of a toxic relationship. Throughout her journey to extract her family from oppression, she explored the idea of freedom through allegorical short stories. Kathleen is now very happily married to her soulmate. She resides in Charleston, South Carolina, where she worked for an adoption attorney for twenty-three years. With her two children settled in adulthood, she is exploring a beautiful world, from scuba diving in Fiji or photographing in Alaska’s frozen tundra. You can visit her website at KatVarn.com.

About the Book
At the age of forty-eight, happily remarried and retired from her legal assistant gerbil wheel, Kat decides to break out of her shell and try her hand at belly dancing. What begins as a hobby leads her to filling a coveted spot in Palmetto Oasis Middle Eastern Dance Troupe.  With less than eight weeks to prepare, Kat’s thrown into a world of performing she is terrified to face, all leading to a week of giving lessons and performing in Jamaica. Traveling with eight glittery strangers, she forges deep bonds under outrageous circumstances at what they’d soon all discover was a clothing-optional resort.

Struggling with paralyzing stage fright and searching for the deeper root of her fears, Kat feverishly seeks a way to release Ameera, her inner dance queen. By the end of the week, the audience is mesmerized by the powerful presence and synchronicity of women joined at the hip by scarves and some glitter. Kat soon knows, with the help of eight sisters in dance, that she is finally part of a tribe, discovering an oasis to refresh her thirst to be part of a circle of women.
