Guest Speaker at Cerritos College Introduces Students to Laminated Object Manufacturing

Michael Feygin, the president and the founder of Cubic Technologies, introduced the students of New Product Development 103 to Laminated Object Manufacturing with Refill (LOMR). LOMR is a fast line of 3D-Printers.

NORWALK, Calif. - Sept. 10, 2013 - PRLog -- Michael Feygin spoke with the NPD class on August 28, 2013. Michael is a Certified Professional Engineer with a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology.  With their new technology, Cubic Technologies envisions moving 3D-Printing beyond its current functions of creating models, prototypes, and small batches of parts towards the era of 3D-Printer-based mass-production.

New Product Development is one of the newest departments at Cerritos College. It was created introduce students to product development in a global economy. Students learn how to identify customer needs, analyze costs, develop concepts, design and generate prototypes, understand supply chain integration, create products, and perform product testing.

New Product Development is a combination of skills that students will gain in the Cerritos College departments of Engineering Design Technology, Machine Tool Technology, Plastics/Composites, Woodworking, and Welding. New Product Development combines skills and knowledge from these various fields to prepare students for and fiercely competitive and evolving business world.

NPD 103 “Tooling/Materials for NPD” in particular introduces students to the tooling and materials used in new product development. Students learn about metallic and non-metallic materials used in the design of tooling and products. Emphasis is placed on the lean development of tooling and how to integrate suppliers to reduce overall cost of product development.

“Michael, as a veteran of 3D printing, was able to contextualize the product development process through his extensive knowledge of the field,” said Dean of Technology, Nick Real. “Students were excited to be able to ask questions relevant to their personal ideas regarding inventions they consider to bring to market.”
