VCEDA and Farm Bureau to Host Oct. 16 Discussion on “Drones and Agriculture”

CAMARILLO, Calif. - Sept. 13, 2013 - PRLog -- Camarillo, Calif.—The Ventura County Economic Development Association (VCEDA) and the Farm Bureau of Ventura County are hosting a discussion on the potential uses of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) or “drones” in the agricultural industry. The discussion takes place Wednesday, October 16 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Ventura County Office of Education Conference Center (5100 Adolfo Road, Camarillo). There is no charge to attend.

         “As the country moves toward the commercialization of unmanned aerial systems into the national air space system, there is much discussion about how this technology will impact any number of industries,” says Bill Buratto, president/CEO of VCEDA. “Agriculture, in particular, is usually cited as an industry that will benefit from this new technology, helping famers produce better yields by providing real time and longitudinal information on water and soil conditions, pesticide detection and other metrics.”

         The meeting will bring together representatives from the agricultural industry and manufacturers of UAS, companies that develop sensors and other imaging technologies along with other interested parties. “We hope this will be the beginning of a dialogue between the two industry sectors that will lead to research, innovation and job creation,” says Buratto.
