National Manufacturing Day Is Being Celebrated at Cerritos College

The Technology Division with its Pathway Program and in collaboration with the Economic Development and Advanced Transportation departments is hosting facility tours in celebration of National Manufacturing Day.
 
NORWALK, Calif. - Oct. 2, 2013 - PRLog -- National Manufacturing Day addresses common misperceptions about manufacturing, and connects businesses, schools, and students to opportunities in the manufacturing industry. The event will take place at Cerritos College on October 4, 2013 and is open to high school students, Educators, and Professionals.

Did you know for example that Machine tool technology majors earn $58,770 on average five years after they receive their certificate of achievement from a community college? This is 42% more than the national average starting salary of a 4 year university graduate at $41,392. And the machine tool technology graduate from a community college is unlikely to carry the $29,059 average debt of the 4 year university graduate! The Cerritos College departments participating in this event are: Plastics & Composites, Welding, Machine Tool Technology, Woodworking, Automotive Repair, and Engineering Design Technology. They will provide registered guests a tour of their facilities. The event will have live and interactive demonstrations for all those programs.

Visitors who have earned their demonstrations “tokens” will be treated to a lunch in our student center. The lunch provided is from a startup company who created their specialty business while they were students of the technology division.Nathalie Gosset will then present on “Jobs For the Future”. Nathalie Gosset leads the Marketing and Business Development functions the Alfred Mann Institute at USC.

“The Manufacturing Day Event will provide visitors with an opportunity to explore the various careers through hands on learning and will introduce them to manufacturing and career pathways,” said Dr. Micic, one of the presenters for the robotics program. “And the guest speaker, Nathalie Gosset,has over 24 years experience in the development and commercialization of technology-based products and will provide a great insight to attendees.”

Cerritos College Pathway Programs Department’s mission is to create educational and career pathways for young adults by providing a seamless transition from secondary to post-secondary education and the skilled workforce.
