Follow on Google News | Xavier technologies Planning to Make Combo ConnectorNov. 6, 2013 - As you may already know, the SAE J1772 “combo connector,” which will allow for both slower ac charging and faster dc charging of plug-in vehicles using a single vehicle electrical inlet, has been approved as the new standard. The three major domestic automakers (Chrysler, Ford, General Motors) and the five major automakers from Germany (Audi, BMW, Daimler, Porsche, & Volkswagen) will use the new connector. "To our knowledge, there is only one company (in the U.S.) that is presently manufacturing the vehicle inlet port and (in our opinion) is seriously overpriced; $800. We are planning to manufacture and market this connector at a substantially lower cost to consumers. This is not a big ticket item but it will help decrease the cost of doing an EV conversion" says Denys Allard, founder and owner of Xavier technologies. After contacting a representative from one of the major OEMs, they have expressed an interest in being able to get this connector at a reduced price. We are sure that other OEMs will be interested as well and they usually order in quantities. Our biggest problem may be keeping up with demand. If you wish to insure that you can get this connector as soon as it is available and not have to deal with back orders, it might be a good idea to reserve yours NOW!
