FREMONT, CALIF. —November 7, 2013—The family of 1U rackmount network security appliances from American Portwell Technology, Inc. (http://www.portwell.com) just keeps getting better. The latest member, CAR-3040, now features the 4th generation Intel® Core™ processors (codenamed Haswell) based on the 22nm manufacturing process and Intel® H81/B85 Chipset with up to 18 GbE ports. In addition, the new CAR-3040 appliance also supports up to 16GB DDR3; the latest Intel® I210AT and I211AT Ethernet controller; PCI-E 3.0 lane that supports 8GT/s; USB 3.0 and SATA 3.0; plus an expansion slot to support add-on PCI-E copper or fiber network module.

The CAR-3040 is contained within a compact Mini-1U rackmount chassis that measures a mere 11.5 inches in depth. It is the ideal solution for Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), Firewall, VPN, Load Balancing, WAN Optimization, Unified Threat Management (UTM), IP Routers, Web Security Gateways and as an Application Delivery Controller (ADC).

Cost Effective and Powerful
“This new configuration enables the CAR-3040 to deliver significant improvements in performance of up to 13 percent, reduced power consumption and increased security,” says Oliver Chen, American Portwell Technology’s product marketing manager. “This increased security is a result of incorporating Intel’s new Advanced Vector Extensions 2 (AVX2) and a new encryption instructions set, Intel’s Advanced Encryption Standard Instructions (AES-NI),” Chen states. “By combining Intel’s AVX2 and AES-NI within CAR-3040, we are able to deliver additional platform security.”

“In short,” Chen adds, “we’ve built a device that provides greater performance and security while operating with lower power consumption and we’ve folded it into an 11.5˝ deep 1U chassis that makes two-post rackmount a snap.”
