Even After Witnessing Fathers Death, NY Writer Brings Families Together in Miami for Christmas Show

MIAMI - Nov. 18, 2013 - PRLog -- A loved one’s untimely death would be profoundly transformative to anyone. Real life playwright/actor/speaker Josh Rivedal has dealt with the tragic loss of his father in rather unique ways.  In a sober nod to its impact on him, and in the spirit of rebuilding his life from a family torn apart, Rivedal has turned community activist and found meaningful ways to give back. But Rivedal also demonstrates the old adage that great comedy stems from angst, as he digs into his own palpable pain and pulls out an uproarious musical theater production. Witness the resulting magic at the world premiere of Rescatando la Navidid.

When the birth of Christ cannot be carried out in the Middle East due to political instability, the angels devise a plan to move the birth to Miami. But the devil's minions also have a plan: Prevent the nativity from happening and ruin Christmas forever! The result is a world-traveling Christmas musical comedy for the entire family to enjoy.

One could say that the show’s warring angels and devils symbolize the good and bad in Rivedal’s own life.  If the quality of his witty libretto is indicative, Rivedal’s creative self has triumphed over potentially emotionally crippling forces. But which side wins in his new musical farce?  We sure won’t tell.

Performed in Spanish with subtitles in English, the show has traditional Latin-American Christmas carols and features a world-class Hispanic cast starring José Joel, the son of famous super star, José José. Rescatando la Navidad is sure to become a yearly tradition for Spanish speaking families everywhere. Presented by Teatro de Broadway, with Rivedal doubling his role as Associate Producer, the Broadway style production opens in Florida’s Miami-Dade County Auditorium on November 26 at 8:00 pm.
