By: LabelsPlus Every now and again a popular drink brand goesthat little bit further to create something truly extraordinary from their labels. Whether a popular soft drink or something stronger, the label campaigns listed below did more than lure shoppers to the shelf; they got people talking; they etched themselves in the collective memory. So here you have it, our favourite drink label campaigns; the ones which had the bottle to try something new. Coca Cola ‘Share a Coke’ Campaign This summer, the world’s favourite Cola brand swapped their name for ours. The ‘Share a Coke’ campaign replaced the iconic Coca-Cola logo on their bottles with 250 of the most popular names in Great Britain. These names adorned the front of all individual 375ml and 500ml PET bottles of Coca Cola, Diet Coke and Coke Zero. Two litres bottles, meanwhile, were designated for ‘family’ and ‘friends’. Such a seemingly simple idea was, in fact, an astonishing achievement to carry out; with so many diverse label designs to bring to life. But the Coke team didn’t stop there. They hit the road, taking ‘Share a Coke’ on tour. Throughout July and August, they took a roadshow to town, cities and supermarkets allowing punters to personalise more than 350,000 bottles. Absolut Vodka Unique Edition It’s one thing to print 250 different names on your bottled drink labels, but it’s another to create 4 million unique label designs. But that’s exactly what Absolut pulled off, to celebrate the release of their ‘Unique Edition’. They turned their label into a virtually unlimited amount of unique works of art, guaranteeing that no customer would get the same one twice. Absolut had to re-engineer their entire production process. Splash guns and colour generating machines were used and an algorithm developed to ensure that a virtually endless number of designs could be generated by using a combination of 35 colours and 51 patterns. They stopped at a whopping four million uniquely designed bottle labels, but ask a member of the Absolut team and they’ll tell you that they could have produced 94 quintillion uniquely designed bottles before two identical ones appeared. That’s the kind of maths we’ll leave to the experts. Whisky Blender Personalised Bottle Labels One way to ensure that the customer receives a different label every time is to let them design their own from scratch. That’s precisely what shoppers can do at whiskyblender.com. But that’s not all they can do. The site allows them to fill a bottle with their own personally blended tipple. The shopper can choose exactly how many ml’s of each ingredient goes into their perfect whisky blend; then choose what’s written on the bottle. Shoppers who can’t come up with a name for their unique vintage can get a helping hand naming their bottle with the ‘Inspire Me’ button. They suggested we call ours “Comforting Beastie” while a second push of the button left us with “Auld Lang Haze”. Beck’s Independent Artist Series Sometimes though design is best left to the professionals. That’s why German brewery Beck’s doesn’t allow us to design our own beer labels; they call upon a who’s who of the cultural elite to do it for us. The Beck’s ‘Independent Artist Series’ enlisted six of the world’s most exciting artists, to produce their own individual spin on the iconic Beck’s bottle label. Each of the elite artists chosen to take part were picked on account of their groundbreaking work in the field of art and music. The campaign was a follow up to the previous year’s Art Labels project, in which a number of beautiful and individual label designs were created by a diverse selection of artists. The project guarantees that every Beck’s bottle label is quite literally a work of art. Thirsty for more? There are plenty of amazing promotional campaigns to talk about.
