Cerritos College Technology Division Gets Recognized by the California Economic Summit

The Technology Division was recognized by the California Economic Summit for preparing students for Manufacturing jobs.
 
NORWALK, Calif. - Dec. 5, 2013 - PRLog -- The California Economic Summit is an unprecedented effort to identify economic opportunities, improve state and regional competitiveness and generate jobs. The Summit Action Team on manufacturing works with industry, especially small and medium-sized manufacturers; universities and community colleges; economic development and training organizations; and state government to develop strategies to advance manufacturing and exports.

On October 4, 2013, Cerritos College hosted National Manufacturing Day to educate the community on manufacturing, programs available, and opportunities in the industry. Over 100 high school students, Educators, Industry Professionals, job seekers, and other local community members attended the event. At the event, the Cerritos College departments for Plastics & Composites, Welding, Machine Tool Technology, Woodworking, Automotive Repair, and Engineering Design Technology provided guests a tour of their facilities and interactive demonstrations.

"Cerritos College Technology department is preparing students for those manufacturing jobs,” said California Forward’s, Cheryl Getuiza. “Students can get on the job training and certifications within a year and a half. Folks at Cerritos College strongly believe that opening their doors to the community on Manufacturing Day restores the image of the Manufacturing industry and raises awareness among those can could be the next generation of workers.”
