Follow on Google News | Silver Cups Day Comes To KemptonBy: Kindred Agency The event will hold brand new races for the Silver Cups, including two that will work hand in hand with the Cheltenham event - consolation races for those horses eliminated from handicap races at the prior event. Channel 4 will be covering the Cheltenham Festival, and will also be screening three of the Silver Cups Day races as part of its newly acquired races for 2014. The consolation races, the Class 2 Handicap Chase for four year olds and upwards over a distance of 2m41/2f, and the Class 2 Handicap Hurdle for four year olds and up over 2m5f, will have a total prize fund of £75,000. Showing the racecourse’s commitment to the cause, the total prize money for the event has almost doubled from last year's figure, rising from £62,600 to a huge £116,000. Barney Clifford, Regional Head of Racing and Clerk of the Course, Kempton Park, said of the day: "The new Silver Cups Day is a great addition to Kempton Park's Racing calendar for 2014 with Jockey Club Racecourses commitment to the sport shown further through another increase to prize money. These two consolation handicaps will only be available to horses that are balloted out at the declaration stage from handicap chases or handicap hurdle races at the Festival, whereby no race is run at Cheltenham. These two handicap consolation races therefore provide an alternative opportunity for horses trained specifically for those four days that were not lucky enough to get a run in the races entered" Kempton's exceptional facilities will make the day an exciting addition to the calendar, and the newly remodelled Panoramic Bar & Restaurant provides a perfect vantage point for those looking to watch the racing while enjoying a range of special international beers or the popular sharing platters. The park has an all-weather polytrack which ensures that only the most extreme conditions would see races called off – very much a reassurance for all, but in particular one of the main reasons why the venue is so popular with corporate clients. Contact details for booking tables in advance can be found on the Kempton site. Kempton has many outstanding events coming up in 2014, including the Family Fun Day in the spring and the Mascot Grand National.
