Winners of 10th Annual Bernays Awards (Boca Raton, FL – January 29, 2014) The Gold Coast PR Council (GCPRC) announced the winners of this 2013 Bernays Awards honoring local excellence in PR & marketing. More than 70 public relations and media professionals attended the luncheon, which was held on January 24 at Boca Dunes Golf & Country Club, with Caroline Breder-Watts of Arts Radio Network serving as Emcee. Following is a list of this year’s Bernays Award winners in eight competitive categories and four additional recipients selected by GCPRC’s Board of Directors and the seven judges: + Project By or For a Nonprofit Organization CULTURAL COUNCIL OF PALM BEACH COUNTY The Deep and the Shallow: Photographers Exploring a Watery World The award was presented by Bonnie Kaye of Kaye Communications and accepted on the Council’s behalf by Christina Wood, editor of art & culture magazine. Following the luncheon, GCPRC President Julie Mullen presented the award to Bebe Brodigan from the Cultural Council. + PR Campaign By a Large Company or Firm THE BUZZ AGENCY Lord and Taylor Grand Opening Campaign The award was presented by Durée Ross, president of Durée & Co., to Elizabeth Kelley Grace, TBA co-founder and partner. + Judges’ Award DOREEN POREBA, APR – The PR Czar Adrienne Moore, incoming president of FRPA, presented the award to Ms. Poreba for her promotional work on behalf on the South Florida Fair. + PR Campaign By a Small Company or Firm MARGIE YANSURA d/b/a WORDSMITH COMMUNICATIONS CANstruction to Benefit the Palm Beach County Food Bank Ms. Yansura accepted the Bernays Award from Elizabeth Kelley Grace from The Buzz Agency. + Branding or Image Campaign DURÉE & CO. Rising Tide Car Wash The award was presented Durée Ross by Melissa Carter, Director of Marketing & PR for the Delray Beach Center for the Arts. + Founders Award DEBORAH BOTTORFF Barbara McCormick, GCPRC’s official photographer and South County’s premier social shutterbug presented the award to the president of Bottorff Graphic Design. + Community Service THE BOATING & BEACH BASH CORP. LLC The 5th Annual Boating & Beach Bash for People with Disabilities The award was presented by Jennifer Sullivan from the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin County, and accepted by three-time Bernays Award winner Jay Van Vechten, Director & Founder of the Boating & Beach Bash for People with Disabilities. + Collateral Material LABOR FINDERS INTERNATIONAL The Labor Finders 2013 Tac Program: Fall Harvest Campaign The award was presented by J.W. Arnold, founder of PRDC, to Dan Shube and his team from Labor Finders International. + Online PR Campaign THE BUZZ AGENCY SunFest Social Media 2013 The award was presented to Alex Bimonte from The Buzz Agency by Dr. Erika Grodzki from Lynn University. + Special Event KRETZER PIANO MUSIC FOUNDATION Keys to the Cities The award was presented to Kathi Kretzer by Jan Van Vechten from the Boating & Beach Bash. + PR Star Award GARY SCHWEIKHART The award to GCPRC’s co-founder was presented by Julie Mullen. President’s Award FLORIDA WEEKLY & THE COASTAL STAR GCPRC President Julie Mullen presented the prestigious President’s Award to “two thriving publications that give lie to the myth that print media is dead.” Accepting for Florida Weekly were publisher Michelle Noga and editor Betty Wells. Accepting for The Coastal Star were publisher Jerry Lower and editor Mary Kate Leming.
