Cerritos College Engineering Design Technology Receives First Next Generation Airwolf3D HD Printer

Through a partnership with Airwolf 3D, Cerritos College’s Engineering Design Technology Program received the first Airwolf 3D HDPrinter.

NORWALK, Calif. - March 21, 2014 - PRLog -- The printer represents the latest state of the art system for additive manufacturing based on the fused deposition modelling in the so called "pro-sumers" category.

It is the first commercially available product which is partially self-replicated system, wherein one AirWolf3D HD printer produce parts for another one, during the manufacturing process, and represents a paradigm shift in a manufacturing.

It allows printing in biodegradable PLA, and in standard engineering thermoplastics like ABS, Nylon HIPS, etc. It’s an open system based on adruino controller, and Repetier Host public domain software package.

"We will use AirWolf3D HD printer In all of the parametric modelling ENGT classes as well as in the coming New Product Development (NPD) 101 class and other NPD classes", said Cerritos College Engineering Design Technology Professor Miodrag "Mickey" Micic.

“In addition to learning how to use most advanced additive manufacturing systems , our new NPD101 class  students will learn all about rapidly growing additive manufacturing / 3D printing business from very unique inside out approach, by building/assembling  their own 3D printer. This way, students completing this class will be qualified to take jobs at any design or prototyping services, a model preparer, 3D additive manufacturing fabricator, or in the basic 3D printers/additive manufacturing systems manufacturing and maintenance,” said Dr. Micic. “Students will be able to construct a printer capable of printing parts, patterns, molds and artwork at their home. They will have the opportunity to build their own 3D printer if they choose to buy the kit on their own. Students can start their own service business at home for a very modest investment in kit and materials.”
