Atlantic Christian Thanks Atlantic City Electric for Donation to Fund Science Lab Expansion

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. - April 3, 2014 - PRLog -- EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP –The AP Biology class at Atlantic Christian School in Egg Harbor Township worked on an experiment in late March using DNA to transform bacteria into being drug-resistant.  To do the experiment, the students used an incubator and a water bath, two new pieces of lab equipment that were purchased this year thanks to a donation from Atlantic City Electric.

"We are happy to support Atlantic Christian School and the initiatives it has designed for its students," said Ken Mosca, Public Affairs Manager at Atlantic City Electric, who visited the class and observed them doing the experiment. "It was a pleasure to see the students first hand utilize the new lab equipment and be so engaged in learning about science."

Interim Chief School Administrator Karen Newman Oblen said Atlantic Christian is grateful for the funding from Atlantic City Electric and a number of other donors that resulted in a $10,000 upgrade in the school’s science lab equipment and educational materials. “Students learn so much more through the hands-on experience of a laboratory experiment, and they develop better observation and investigation skills,” Oblen said.

AP Biology teacher Dave Genter is particularly pleased with a new 2000x trinocular microscope and a digital camera that attaches to the microscope, also donated by Atlantic City Electric, that give him the ability to project tissue cells and other tiny objects onto a Smart Board for class instruction. Students in chemistry teacher Rebecca Stonelake’s class are regularly using new high quality monocular microscopes, hot plates, and balances in their experiments.

Atlantic Christian School, an independent, non-denominational school founded in 1971, is dually accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and the Association of Christian Schools International and educates children from 6 months to the 12th grade.
